In an uncertain, connected and fast-moving world, innovation is key to solving the most complex challenges we’ve ever faced as a society and as a global community. Individuals, organisations and even countries are recognizing innovation as the driving force for achieving growth and they are identifying technology as the key enabler. However, innovation today also requires inclusive collaboration, rapid learning by doing, and contextual understanding of human needs.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
What is our Sprint Week
Occurs in your fourth week of your Bootcamp in our digital innovation hub
Participate in an intensive exercise in innovation and team collaboration where you will be solving a real-world, social challenge
Collaborative teams will be composed of diivers as well as local students and community leaders
You will have just one week to go from idea to prototyped business solution
Each solution must be designed using the digital knowledge you have acquired (in Weeks 1-3)
You will need to think through the possible usage cases, target groups, and the value creation of your solution in order to develop a high-level, business model
Incorporate diverse cultural, social and organisational perspectives within your design
The week will be underpinned by a design thinking process used by many startups, innovation departments and leading, global organisations
Pitch your solution in front of our panel of experts, community members and peers
Build a digital portfolio of your work to showcase at future job interviews
Our sprint environment
Selected as World Design Capital in 2014 and fast becoming Africa’s very own Silicon Valley, Cape Town is brimming with rising new generation of bold, creative-thinking innovators and entrepreneurs who are constantly inventing and developing new technologies that will simplify our daily lives and transform societies. Thompson Reuters and Barclays have decided to base their innovation clusters here too!
That’s because innovation happens where there’s uncomfortable friction – as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. South Africa lies at the interface of developed and developing worlds, a space of enormous, and necessary, creativity. This is where leapfrog technologies are conceptualised and tested; where innovation is not an abstract concept but a daily lived reality.
Our innovation lab
Impactful innovation does not happen in a bubble, it happens in a community, with a community. Our innovation lab is located in Bandwidth Barn Khayelitsha, a community space that enhances tech entrepreneurship and innovation within Cape Town communities. The Barn was developed in order to drive inclusive innovation. It is a place for experimentation, fast-paced learning, collaboration, and the co creation of sustainable, tech-enabled solutions.
